In a nutshell... I'm still over the hill with regards to my driving license. Guess I'm overly excited. Basically spent the entire day driving to showrooms on my dad's vehicle. Test drove a few cars. Hmm... I guess an automatic car definitely has its convenience but it can never beat a manual car especially when it comes to speed and acceleration.

Well, I guess I'll most probably be driving a "temp" car for about a year or so till I can improve my skills and be that little bit closer to perfection. Perhaps TOYOTA might be a good choice? I'm still contemplating....

But guess what... I swore I wouldn't have even stepped into a Geely Showroom if my parents haven't insisted. Well, prayers answered. Before 10mins, they were marching quietly out of it! Whiew!

Still contemplating... Perhaps... if there's even a slightest chance. I might be getting an Altis...

I have no issues with Toyotas. remember the black Corolla I had? yes, we changed it over to minimise the amount of money we stand to lose after 3 years... but within that time, we had no main worries with the Corolla at all.

although the new Camry is made in Thailand, I'm very partial to that car as well. but yeah.

what about the new Civic? I've not driven the new Altis, since we import the Japanese/European Corollas into Australia instead of the Thai made ones, but comparing the new Corolla against the new Civic, I'm sold on the Civic. of course, I compared a manual against a manual, and even though the Corolla had 6 forward gears as opposed to the Civic's 5, trust me when I tell you the Civic handled waaaaaaaaaaaaay better.

if you don't mind, and if money is an issue, do consider either the Yaris or the Jazz. these vehicles are really good, and actually have a lot of space in it. a friend of mine manage to move her entire place in 3 trips, excluding the big furniture like the sofas or the beds. she even manage to fit the washing machine and dryer into her Jazz, although not in the same trip.

so yeah. do consider. I'm very out of touch with the Singapore car market, but if you need help, just let me know.

Like what yvonne said, its only what others "perceive". -laughs- Well, I decided to go with an Altis because it has a relatively spacious interior. Thats as far as my budget can take me.

I did take a look at the Jazz and Yaris. But I guess I'm not too much of a hatchback kinda person. For a reason its due to the big people I have in my family. Too much space constrain. 5 big people in that car? hmmm...

Whoa, don't get me started on the camry! It was my first choice initially! Honestly, I loved it, though it never came to me that it was made in Thailand. Goodness. But again... its too big a car for me... also the $$$.

Civic? Its good. I like the performance and all but that car's practically a petrol drinker isn't it? Fuel consumption is kinda high. Same goes for the Mazda. Guess thats the price for higher torque.

Besides, the Altis is going for $58k now. The price is expected to drop a little further since the year end is coming and newer models of Altis will be sold next year. So I thought its not bad a choice...

Is it???

comparing the Corolla to the Camry, the more uncle would be the Camry. although the v6 Camry aka Aurion over here in Australia, that's quite far from uncle. especially the Sportivo one. mmmmmmmm.

not sure about the Altis, but the Corollas that are sold here *imported from Japan, both the European-inspired hatch and the Jap inspired sedan* supposedly have lousier fuel consumptions than the new made in Thailand Civic.

as for the Jazz/Yaris, have you sat in it yet? it is a bit of a tight squeeze compared to the Corolla, but it's still a very spacious car in its own right. what about the Yaris sedan? oh wait, they sell it as a Vios in Singapore I think... check that out too.

other cars to consider would be a Peugeot 207, Ford Focus, VW Golf 1.6 FSI, VW Jetta, Mazda 3, the new Mazda 2, the new Mitsubishi Lancer, Citroen C3. even if you're not going to purchase any of the European makes, at least have a drive/ride in them to see what you're missing/not missing out on.
